The HKAFL kicked off its season this past Sunday with all 8 teams vying to start their seasons with a win.

Thundercats 32 vs 6 Samurai Dragons

The Thundercats (previously Revengers) and the reigning league champions faced off against the Samurai Dragons. Both teams lost some players during the summer off-season, including new quarterbacks manning the helm this year. Sporting a new name, the Thundercats emerged victorious with a 32 - 6 win against the Samurai Dragons. New Thundercats QB Fred Davies had 3 TDs, hitting receivers Thomas Man for 2 TDs and Alex Galbraith for another. They were equally dominant on the defensive side of the ball, with Jonny Kuilderd's 2 Sacks and Alex Galbraith 2 Ints, returning one of them for a TD.

The Samurai Dragons were led by QB Masataka Nozaki, who connected his only TD with WR Takaaki Sakagami, who also had an INT on the defensive side of the ball.

IcyHots 20 vs 13 Lost Boys

The IcyHots, who finished in 2nd place last season, won 20-13 in a nail-biter against the Lost Boys. Both teams added a few new players to their teams during the offseason. The IcyHots were led by Tyler Treece, who converted to QB from WR and accounted for 2 Passing TDs while rushing in another TD. Ken Chu led the IcyHots in receiving with 2 TDs while new rookie Wally Her solidified the win with a safety.

The Lost Boys went with the ground game, with 1 rushing TD each for Steve Safarowic and Jake Hung. Alex Verge had 1 INT and Lost Boys rookie Abdul Tabhan had 2 sacks.

    Ballhawks 29 vs 13 Buffaloes

The Ballhawks look to be one of the darkhorse teams this season, and most certainly so while adding size, height and speed with several newcomers to both sides of the ball. Led by QB Brandon Little, the Ballhawks led comfortably with a 2 TD lead for the majority of the game.

The Lantau Buffaloes were led by QB Jay Ma, who connected for 2 TDs to receiver Rocky. WR/CB Ralph led the defense with 1 INT.

Free Agents 32 vs 6 Hong Kong Football Team

The last game of the night was between veteran team Free Agents and Hong Kong Football Team, who joined the league last season with a combined roster of former Flying Bills and Roughriders players. Free Agents were led by new QB Steve Suh, former Revenger who joined the Free Agents during the offseason. Steve embraced his new role on a new team, with 3 passing TDs on offense and 1 INT return for a TD on defense. WR Travis Gavalis led the league this week with 3 receiving TDs. The Free Agents were equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball, led by Chris Delvecchio with 2 INTS and Janet Zeldin with 3 sacks.

The Hong Kong Football Team open this season with an almost new team, having only 3 returning players from last season. The team was led by new recruit Emilio at QB, who connected for his only touchdown with team veteran receiver Ady Adefris, who also had himself an INT.

While only one team can come out on top, there is also opportunity for individual players to win league-wide trophies for their position. This year it was a clear winner for each Passing TDs, Scoring TDs, and Interception Leaders, though the Defensive TD trophy was shared between four players. Congratulations, all!

Most Passing Touchdowns: Steven Suh (Disco Ninjas), 43

Most Scoring Touchdowns: Travis Gavalis (Free Agents), 23

Most Interceptions: Alexis Devaud (Disco Ninjas), 11

Most Defensive Touchdowns: Alex Berriman (Rogue Squadron), Alexis Devaud (Disco Ninjas), Thomas Man (Rogue Squadron), Tyler Treece (Icy Hots), 2

After an intense season, it's the IcyHots and Da Fat Club in the finals! During the season the IcyHots came through with the win, but can they do it again in the Championship game?

    Hello league,

Happy 2019! The season has gotten off to a great start; as of today, we no longer have any undefeated teams this year, so we certainly have a fun and competitive second half of the season upon us.

With that in mind, I wanted to remind you each of a few things.

    1) This is a non-contact league for both defense and offense. We have had far too many injuries this season from absolutely unacceptable aggression, and it needs to stop immediately. Not only is defense tackling offensive players, but offensive players are plowing down the defense in order to get to the goal line. This is illegal on both sides of the field and will result in your ejection. We have some great Hong Kong-based tackle leagues, and if you feel like playing more aggressively, please do go join one of those teams instead.

    2) This is a friendly league. There has been far too much poor sportsmanship on our fields in the first half of the season. Volunteer referees are trying their best, and poor language and poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. Get competitive and play to win, but by no means should you be taking out frustrations on the people who are helping you and this league to run smoothly. If you are not a captain of a team, please do not speak to the referees. Be respectful.

See you all on the 27th!

What a season! No teams coming in to the Winter Break are undefeated anymore, though Da Fat Club, Rogue Squadron, and Disco Ninjas are in a heated battle for that top spot.

This week we saw the Free Agents take on Rogue Squadron, ultimately coming out under as Rogue Squadron put their best foot forward.

In a particularly exciting game, The Flying Bills, one of the HKAFL's newest teams, took on the strong Ballhawks and left the night with their first win, only 1 point above the Ballhawks. This Flying Bills team came to win, and hopped up a spot in the standings.

Finally, we had the Samurai Dragons take on the Lantau Buffaloes, another close and exciting game for the night. Ultimately it was the Lantau Buffaloes who came out with the win, but not for a lack of some great moves by the Dragons.

The standings have shifted quite a bit this season, and we look forward to seeing how things shake out in early 2019. Have a nice holiday season and see you next year!

Week 4 had two very strong teams, the Ballhawks and the Disco Ninjas, facing off against each other, ith the former coming out with the Win. Meanwhile the Free Agents got their first Loss of the season to the powerhouse Da Fat Club.

Veteran teams the IcyHots and Mean Machine came out with wins against the newer teams Lost Boys and Lantay Buffaloes

Teams are starting to settle into the standings, with the more veteran teams at the top and newer teams fighting to climb upwards. We'll see what happens throughout the rest of the season!

Yesterday was week two of the flag football season, and two of our new teams squared off! The Flying Bills and Lantau Buffaloes took to the field Sunday night; though the Buffaloes came out with their first W of the season, The Flying Bills put up a good fight in their first HKAFL showing.

Currently, the IcyHots and Da Fat Club are on top of our standings, both 2-0, but you never know what is going to happen in this league!

The field is open for practice on 21 October at 9:30pm, and our next games are 28 October.
